The Role

We are looking for a Compliance professional who has experience in regulatory compliance and contract management to join our growing team. This is a newly created role as a result of expansion of our activities. We need someone who can ensure that our contracts with research collaboration partners are adhered to, but who can also recognise in advance clauses which may be unfair or unclear. We need someone who can identify binding government regulations and suggest ways to be compliant, as well as sourcing funding opportunities. You will need to be analytical, systematic and have attention to details.

Contract and Compliance Lead will be responsible for the following (reporting to CTO in Pisa):

  1. Third party contract management in regards of compliance of agreed terms and conditions, amongst them KPI’s, deliverables, IP and payments.
  2. Grant monitoring in the context of budgets and cost reporting. Assisting in coordinating Horizon Europe research consortium.
  3. Analysing and understanding the legal, financial and operational implications of relevant governmental regulations, and preparation of action plans to ensure compliance.
  4. Identifying funding opportunities from government bodies and coordinate application process.

Processes and Procedures will be responsible for the following (reporting to the Operations Manager in the UK):

  1. Implementing internal processes, procedures and work instructions.
  2. Maintaining and auditing records in the context of ISO9001 quality management system.
  3. Managing internal and external non-conformances and implementing improvement using standardised procedures and methodology.

Training will be given if needed.

Person Specification

  • Educated to degree level (a science subject will be preferred)
  • Fluent in Italian with a good understanding of English

Chief Engineer

Our technology platforms include Silicon Photonics, Graphene Photonics, Glass and Nitride, thin-film LN, Hybrid Integration and Advanced Packaging.

The Chief Engineer will lead the PIC design and fabrication activities by implementing a design-for-manufacturing strategy, selecting the appropriate technologies and processes to deliver prototypes and products to our customers, and dealing with external fabs for the industrialization of our products.

Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer will:

  • Lead process development and new solutions implementation to meet the requirements defined by the design team;
  • Ensure the stability and reproducibility of the processes, in particular of the most innovative steps;
  • Implement technology transfer to external fabs;
  • Generate internal and external documentation, technical reports and process engineering specifications;
  • Coordinate the engineering activities in collaboration with the Clean Room Manager;

  • In collaboration with the Clean Room Manager, stay current with technology development and suggest purchase of new equipment, negotiates technical specifications and price for new instruments purchase and supervise the installation of the instruments;

Profile

Qualifications and skills:

  • S. in Physics, Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent (PhD in related field is a plus);
  • 7+ years fabrication process development/implementation (lithography, deposition, etching, …), in particular on passive photonic integrated circuit based on SOI, SiO2 and SiN;
  • Knowledge in III-V technology is a plus;
  • Experience in technology transfer to Si foundries or experience in Si foundries
  • Track record in PIC design;
  • Excellent communication skills, the interpersonal ability to liaise effectively across contractors, engineering and facilities;
  • Experience with 2D materials (graphene, hBN) is a plus;

The Process Engineer will:

  • design the package layout according to the project requirements, including optoelectronics performance, reliability and environmental aspects
  • develop and consolidate innovative packaging technologies and process flows, including process setup and optimization of specific processes
  • take the technical lead of R&D and industrial projects in collaboration with the front-end, PIC design and system integration groups
  • support the technical operations of the Advanced Packaging Laboratory, contributing to the equipment maintenance and stable operation

Profile

Qualifications and skills:

  • S. in Physics, Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent (PhD in related field is a plus)
  • Previous experience in a clean room facility, packaging line or optical/electrical IC testing laboratory
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: CAD design of micro-optical systems and/or high frequency interconnects (tens of GHz); thermo-mechanical simulation of optoelectronics package; package design, assembly and testing for high-rel applications (e.g. space-grade photonics)
  • Hands-on experience in microelectronics and/or photonics packaging technologies, e.g. die attach, flip-chip bonding, wirebonding, solder reflow, optical alignment of fiber optics and active devices, validation and qualification testing
  • Strongly practical and creative attitude to problem-solving

Responsibilities

The EBL Process Engineer will:

  • Be in charge of all the steps connected to EBL exposures (pattern fracturing, alignment, exposure preparation and realization);
  • Optically check the obtained results, evaluate the exposure quality and identify relevant exposure problems;
  • Be in charge of EBL processes optimization (design and realization of exposure tests);
  • Be in charge of the identification and optimization of new EBL resists for new applications;
  • Actively collaborate with the design team to define and implement new types of EBL masks;
  • Actively collaborate with the Front-End Area Manager and the Front-End Area staff to define and implement new processes;
  • Generate internal and external documentation, technical reports and process engineering specifications;
